I'm building Gentoo stages
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I've started building Gentoo stage1, stage2 and stage3 tarballs for x86, i686 and amd64, and am making them available online. I am also making OpenVZ templates available online as well.
These stages are clean Gentoo builds using a snapshot of the official Portage tree. x86 and i686 are using the 2007.1 profile whereas amd64 is using the 2007.0 profile. No overlays - just pure Gentoo.
I have yet to test these builds, except for the OpenVZ template. If you find bugs in them, let me know first so I can fix them. This can be done by sending an informal email to me (drobbins at funtoo dot org.) If it's a Gentoo-related issue, I will let you know and one of us can file a bug on Gentoo's bug tracker. But check with me first so that the Gentoo developers don't get bothered by bugs that may be specific to my builds.
Enjoy the builds and let me know what you think and what you'd like to see!

Sweet, I'll try them this weekend (amd64) and let you know how it went.
They have broken USB installs from the official Gentoo stages and with a nice piece of retrospective justification have claimed they never supported USB installs. So I would like to see stages that allow USB installation for legacy-free systems, subnotebook PCs, certain embedded systems and so on.
Zeth, can you post me to some additional info on how this has been broken so I can look into it? Thanks :)
Hello Daniel, I just read Bug 173117 and it may be fixed in the next version, slightly hard to tell under the mud slinging, but there is a nice screenshot of the bug.
It seems that it may well work if I reformat my USB stick as ext2. However, I still think it is nuts that they are not supporting USB installs and not testing them before release.
I'm having problems with the permissions, when chrooting I get: chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': Permission denied (even after chowning it for root)
Hi Daniel,
Sounds good to see you again around the Gentoo world ;). And I'll feel less lonely with my no-QA-at-all stages ;).
@ Zeth
I've created a working USB install once. Want me to look into it? Or I didn't understand the problem correctly....
@ Daniel
What exactly stage3 includes? what is built there?
Thanks
Thank you for the work. It was very nice to have thouse files ;)
